Ramenegg is situated above Morgarten and the shore of Lake Ägeri in Canton Schwyz. Overlooking the rolling prealpine landscape and the historical battlefield of Morgarten, Ramenegg is famous throughout Central Switzerland as a prime Bise ridge soaring venue where pilots can enjoy prolonged slope flights and top landing right outside an alpine restaurant.
FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS AND WIND
Ramenegg requires an east or east northeast wind, commonly known as the Bise. When the Bise blows steadily across the valley, the ascending airflow creates a reliable lift band along the entire hillside. Pilots can soar dynamically back and forth, climb towards Chaiserstock and the Wildspitz ridge, and return to land gracefully beside the takeoff area. Essential safety warning: If the wind swings to the north or northeast, flying must be avoided immediately, as the nearby forest edge generates severe mechanical turbulence and dangerous down draft rotors across the launch pasture.

FLIGHT IMPRESSIONS
LAUNCH SITE
The takeoff meadow is located directly next to Restaurant Ramenegg. The launch area consists of a grassy slope with a moderate gradient, making setups quick and convenient right out of the car. A windsock indicates the prevailing wind direction. In standard Bise conditions, reverse inflation is recommended to verify canopy alignment before launching. Be aware of pasture fences and livestock grazing on adjacent fields.
LANDING SITE
The most popular landing technique at Ramenegg is top landing directly back on the meadow beside the restaurant, allowing continuous soaring sessions without requiring a retrieval drive. If the wind weakens and top landing is not feasible, pilots can glide toward the valley landing meadow at Morgarten near Lake Ägeri at 730 meters above sea level. Note that a telephone line runs along the lakeside road near the Morgarten landing, so plan your approach circuit well clear of the wires.
AIRSPACE AND SAFETY
The regional airspace is relatively uncomplicated, but pilots must observe general altitude ceilings and check daily flight bulletins. Pay strict attention to local wind shifts: any wind with a northern component creates turbulent rotors behind the woodland crest. Always double check conditions at the windsock before unrolling your glider.
GETTING THERE AND ACCESS
Ramenegg is conveniently accessible directly by automobile. From Morgarten or Oberägeri, drive up the paved mountain road directly to Restaurant Ramenegg, where parking spaces are provided for restaurant guests and pilots. Hikers can also ascend from Morgarten on foot along scenic alpine trails in roughly forty five minutes.
