Advance booking is recommended during summer. Rides operate in morning and afternoon sessions, with afternoon rides often enjoying softer lighting against the surrounding mountains.

Overcoming Initial Hesitations: Horseback riding often seems reserved for seasoned equestrians, and the prospect of guiding a large animal across unfamiliar terrain can appear intimidating. I had imagined bouncy discomfort and sore muscles. In reality, to be honest, I imagined horse riding to be much more difficult than it turned out to be.
A Gentle Equine Companion: A major reason for this positive experience was the horse I was paired with. It was exceptionally calm, responsive, and steady on its feet. Sensing my lack of previous experience, the horse maintained a calm pace and intuitive rhythm, quickly putting me at ease and building confidence in the saddle.
Riding Along Laguna Sofia: The trail winds gently through tussock grasslands, skirting the gravel shoreline of the lagoon. Across the water, vertical limestone bluffs rise steeply into the sky, where condors can frequently be spotted gliding on thermal currents. The rhythmic pace of the horse and the silence of the landscape created an immersive, peaceful connection with the Patagonian countryside.
PRACTICAL TIPS AND ESSENTIALS
Rider Attire: Wear long pants, sturdy closed toe shoes or boots, and flexible layers. Even on calm days, Patagonian breezes can pick up across open water.
Mindset: Relax your grip on the reins and trust the horse. Criollo horses in Patagonia are surefooted animals bred for navigating rugged terrain with natural grace.
